About Carbonix

Precision antibiotics to eliminate Enterococcus pathogens while preserving the microbiome.

The Problem

Enterococcal infections represent one of the most urgent challenges in modern medicine. Enterococcus faecium and E. faecalis are leading causes of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections, endocarditis, and urinary tract infections, with vancomycin-resistant strains (VRE) now among the CDC's most serious resistance threats.

Yet the standard of care continues to rely on broad-spectrum antibiotics that indiscriminately destroy commensal gut flora alongside the pathogen. This collateral damage to the microbiome is not benign. Mounting clinical evidence links antibiotic-driven dysbiosis to increased susceptibility to secondary infections, impaired immune reconstitution, and the emergence of autoimmune and central nervous system disorders.

The field needs narrow-spectrum agents that eliminate enterococcal pathogens while preserving the protective microbiome, turning the antibiotic treatment paradigm from sledgehammer to surgical strike.

Precision Antibiotics for Enterococcus Species

Carbonix Therapeutics is developing innovative, narrow-spectrum, microbiome-sparing technology for precision therapy against Enterococcus pathogens. The company is built on proprietary technology with demonstrated efficacy across various Enterococcus infection models while also sparing microbiome diversity.

At Carbonix, our mission is to defeat Enterococcus pathogens while safeguarding the microbiome, because we believe preserving gut health is essential to better patient outcomes.

History

Carbonix was incorporated in 2026 as a spin out of Purdue University based on technology developed in the lab of Founder and Professor Daniel P. Flaherty.
